The new year has solidly started, and from us all at Jumbelbook I wish you all the love in the world. To contribute to this in our own small way, we thought we’d create a bundle for you with a set of stories on the subject of love.
The first story in the bundle is The Little Gray Lady by Francis Hopkinson Smith. Smith was an American engineer (known for his numerous federal government works, including the foundation of the Statue of Liberty), author and artist who regularly ventured on various sketching trips across the Americas and Europe.
The second piece in this edition is The Broken Cup by Heinrich Zschokke. Zschokke was a nineteenth century German and naturalised Swiss author of histories and fiction, and a reformer. The Broken Cup is a tale of love and deceit from differing viewpoints by three friends interpreting the engraving “La Cruche Cassee”.
The third story is The adventures of Alphonso and Marina: An Interesting Spanish Tale by Jean-Pierre Claris de Florian. Florian was a 18th century French poet and romance writer. He is known for his fables, while his early works were mostly comedies and is known for writing romances later in life. In 1794 Florian was entangled in the French Revolution and he died in prison of tuberculosis.
The last piece is The Yates Pride: A Romance by Mary Eleanor Wilkins Freeman. Wilkins Freeman was a 19th-century American author. Raised by orthodox Congregationalists who bestowed a very strict childhood, Wilkins Freeman demonstrated her values as a feminist through her children’s stories, poems and short stories, which diverged from traditional gender roles which were a common trope in literature at the time.
This ebook is hand-curated for you by Jumbelbook in .ePub and .mobi format. Hope you enjoy!
