Humorous English

To continue our positive start to the new year, we are going to be posting a series of humorous short stories bundles, with this first one made up from humorous pieces from English literature.

The first piece in this edition is Eliza by Barry Pain. Pain was a turn of the nineteenth century English journalist, poet and writer of parody and lightly humorous stories. Don’t be misled, Eliza is from the viewpoint of a senior clerk rather than from his astute wife, Eliza; the husband being a lower middle-class bumbling man-type character, similar to Fawlty Towers. The Eliza series is generally reviewed as being sweet, upbeat stories.

The second piece in this bundle is The Relics of General Chasse: A Tale of Antwerp by Anthony Trollope. Trollope was a postal works inspector and novelist, born in 1815. His notable works are set in the imaginary county of Barsetshire, in addition to works set in Ireland during the potato famine during the 1840-1850′s.
